Ella-isms {Month Four}

Seriously, what happened to month three? Oh, we were busy traveling, getting baptized, meeting new people, and getting a feel for mommy and daddy's home town, Houston, TX. It was during this trip where I realized our baby is officially not a newborn anymore. She is super aware, holds her head up like a champ, rolling over, and jumping like no tomorrow. Lucky for us, her newborn personality is still there, eats and sleeps well and just as smiley and happy as ever. I have to hold myself back from taking pics of this happy baby but it's just so hard not to share it with our family and friends.

Month Four has been all about getting a somewhat sleeping schedule/routine down. We're all about the flexible parenting but I read that it helps to have somewhat of a schedule so the baby knows what to expect so when we have to veer from the schedule, it's easy for the baby to readjust without too much effort. This has definitely been working for us. When we are home, we try to follow a normal schedule/routine within an hour's flexibility and Ella seems to be taking it pretty well. Granted, we've had to deal with some sleeping issues with her new skill of rolling over and shorter naps, but for the most part, it's been okay. Thank God! When we're out, we just take the cues from her and go with it. Sometimes, we can't always put her to sleep when she's ready but she's really good about just sleeping a little wherever we are until we can get her into her crib or pack n play for a nap or the night. I know some babies get overtired and will fuss and can't settle, but thankfully Ella hasn't been like this so we definitely have been lucky. She will literally fall asleep sitting up if she's that tired; all without a single cry. However, if you see that she is sleepy and try to put her to sleep, she will fight it a little but usually not for long before falling asleep. I wonder how long this will last??

Now, Here are some Ella-isms at Month Four:

Weight: 13lbs 15oz
Height: 25 inches
Features: someone is starting to look like her daddy with her big forehead...hehe. still sporting the big cheeks and chubby thighs
Likes: rolling over {back to tummy}, blowing raspberries, splashing in the tub, jumping up and down, and putting everything in her mouth which causes her to drool everywhere
Dislikes: the bottle {still!}, sitting in the car seat when we are eating out so we've resorted to having to hold her while eating, sitting or laying still; this girl is on the move!
Movement: rolling over {back to tummy}, scooting around {i'll leave her on the play mat and next thing you know, she scooted to the rug}, jumping and standing while you hold her {finally playing in her jumperoo and loves it}
Words: blowing raspberries is so funny, loves jabbering in the morning and after naps, screams with excitement during baths and playtime
Sleeps: in the crib with the changing pad mattress in it; we tried putting her in it without the mattress but she kept rolling over and getting her limbs stuck or face planting so it wasn't working out. we shall revisit when she gets too big for the mattress or if she learns how to roll the other way {tummy to back}. she doesn't like sleeping on her stomach and every time she rolls over on her stomach she immediately lifts her head up for tummy time. it's been a struggle but i'm sure she will figure it out. in the meantime, i am just doing what is letting us all sleep at night. She normally sleeps between 7-8 pm at night to about 7-9 am in the morning depending on when she wakes at night, but we're down to just one feeding a night, which is great!
Eats: we are down to 5 feedings a day, she usually eats when she wakes up for about 10-15 minutes, taking both boobs, we can go a good 4 hours or so during the day and 6-7 hours at night! hallelujah. her first sleep cycle is always the longest {6-7 hours} and then she will wake up about 3-4 hours after. She goes to bed around 7-8 and I usually get up around 2-3 for a feeding and then again around 6-7 for the morning. If she wakes up before 6, I will just nurse her back to sleep, ha. Mama needs to sleep!

Well, that's Miss Ella for month four.

  1. Sounds like she's doing really great! I bet it won't be long til she drops the night feeding as well. How nice that she will just fall asleep wherever! Forest HAD to be in his bed at naptime or would lose his mind so adhering to a schedule was a must. How funny that she can roll back to tummy but not reverse. Forest was opposite- rolled from tummy to back at 7 weeks but not the opposite til 4 months and then he loved sleeping on his tummy and became a much happier baby:) It's crazy how different they all are!
